Onne van der Wal
Award-winning nautical photographer Onne van der Wal invites viewers into a world few ever experience, capturing the wet, salty, and exhilarating essence of life on the water. For nearly 40 years he has immersed himself in the nautical realm, first as a professional sailor who circumnavigated the globe in the 1981–82 Whitbread Around the World Race aboard the winning Dutch entry FLYER, where his novice Olympus camera kit produced the now-iconic images that launched his career. Since trading his sea boots for a camera strap, the Dutch-born, South Africa–raised van der Wal has become renowned for his technical mastery and adventurous spirit, shooting from his home base in Newport, Rhode Island and on expeditions to remote destinations accessible only by boat. His vast archive of more than 2.5 million images reflects an eye sharpened by decades of experience, whether in polar extremes or quiet coastal coves. A leader in both digital photography and video, van der Wal shares his expertise through presentations, lectures, and his acclaimed “Workshops on the Water,” where he teaches photographers how to thrive in the most challenging marine conditions—days when salt spray, motion, and weather turn most shooters back, but inspire some of his most celebrated work.

Cory Silken
Cory Silken is a world-renowned nautical and luxury photographer whose stunning imagery has captivated audiences globally. His work has been featured on the cover of every major yachting magazine, appears as set dressings for TV and film, is published in numerous books, and has been exhibited internationally. From the Cory Silken Photography Gallery in Newport, Silken travels globally for commercial assignments and exclusive private projects with billionaire yacht owners. With over twenty five years of experience behind the lens and a deep passion for the sea, Cory will share his expertise, guiding you to elevate your photography skills throughout this extraordinary adventure.
HIGHLIGHTS OF YOUR CARIBBEAN ADVENTURE

Marina Cay
Fly into Beef Island on Tortola and let your adventure begin the moment you touch down. A short stroll brings you to Trellis Bay, where Arabella awaits just offshore at Marina Cay—our tender will sweep you across the turquoise water and welcome you aboard in true island style. Marina Cay is a jewel of the BVI, and a quick walk to the top rewards you with a breathtaking panorama—arrive by the 6:18 pm sunset and have your camera ready for an unforgettable first glimpse of paradise. Dinner is ashore at the newly reborn Marina Cay Bar & Grill, your perfect introduction to island flavors and laid-back Caribbean nights. The next morning, climb again to greet a dazzling sunrise at 6:48 am and watch the BVI come alive in golden light.

Cooper Island
Cooper Island is a photographer’s dream—an eco-chic hideaway where turquoise water meets powder-soft sand and every corner looks like it was designed for a magazine cover. As you approach the island, you’ll see the iconic Cooper Island Beach Club perched along the shoreline, a beloved BVI landmark known for its solar-powered craft brewery, artisan rum bar, boutique, and relaxed Caribbean vibe. Step ashore with your camera ready: the palm-lined beach glows at golden hour, the water is so clear you can capture sea turtles drifting by, and the colorful beach bar and rustic walkways create endless opportunities for vibrant, storytelling shots. Wander the shoreline, photograph the yachts anchored in Manchioneel Bay, or venture up the paths for elevated views of the channel—Cooper Island delivers some of the most naturally perfect frames in the entire BVI, guaranteed to spark your creative fire.

The Baths
Next we head to one of the most iconic photographic locations in the entire Caribbean—the Baths of Virgin Gorda. Arabella will anchor off Spanish Town, and guests will hop into a classic Caribbean open-air taxi for the short, breezy ride up to the Top of the Baths, where the adventure begins. From there, follow the trail down to the beach and step into a surreal world of giant granite boulders, cathedral-like grottoes, shafts of golden light, and luminous turquoise pools—every turn offers another unforgettable image. Wander, climb, wade, and explore your way through this natural playground with your camera in hand, then return to the Top of the Baths for sweeping sunset views over Sir Francis Drake Channel, the perfect finale to one of the Caribbean’s most spectacular photo experiences.

Bitter End Yacht Club & Brias Creek
The next day we sail into the legendary North Sound—one of the most photogenic stretches of water in the British Virgin Islands—and spend the afternoon at the iconic Bitter End Yacht Club. With its colorful waterfront cottages, vibrant marina scene, palm-lined boardwalks, and nonstop sailing action, BEYC offers photographers a treasure trove of dynamic shots, from glowing Caribbean water to classic yachts gliding past the docks. As golden hour approaches, we continue across the Sound to the serene and exclusive Biras Creek, a place where the light turns magical. Here you’ll capture sweeping vistas, soft evening colors, and mirror-calm water framed by rugged hills—one of the most breathtaking sunset settings anywhere in the BVI. This is a two-stop day designed to fill your camera with pure Caribbean magic.

White Bay & Jost Van Dyke
White Bay on Jost Van Dyke delivers one of the most iconic beach scenes in all the BVIs—blinding white sand, impossibly turquoise water, and palm trees swaying over a shoreline that feels straight out of a postcard. It’s also home to the legendary Soggy Dollar Bar, where a world-famous Painkiller cocktail might just spark a burst of photographic creativity as you capture the lively beach vibe. For those craving a different perspective, mountain trails rise just behind the bay, offering sweeping overlooks of the anchorage below. As evening approaches, we’ll anchor off Great Harbor, right in front of the classic Caribbean charm of Foxy’s Bar, where glowing lights, colorful beach shacks, and the laid-back rhythm of island life create the perfect backdrop for unforgettable sunset and nighttime shots..

Peter Island
Peter Island is the quiet luxury of the BVIs—an exclusive, privately owned oasis where every view feels carefully composed for the perfect shot. Known for its world-class spa, manicured grounds, and hushed, high-end ambiance, Peter Island offers photographers a rare blend of natural beauty and refined Caribbean elegance. Wide, sweeping beaches curve into crystalline shallows, lush hills rise dramatically behind palm-fringed coves, and the soft, golden light at both sunrise and sunset transforms the island into a painter’s palette of warm tones. Wander the tranquil paths, capture long, dreamy shoreline perspectives, or frame the distant silhouettes of Tortola and the surrounding cays—Peter Island rewards photographers with a serene, upscale setting that feels worlds away from everything else in the BVIs

FAQs
Where do we meet Arabella?
Guests will meet Arabella anchored off Marina Cay in the British Virgin Islands. We recommend flying into Beef Island Airport (EIS) on Tortola. From there, it’s a short walk to Trellis Bay—about half a mile—or, if you’re traveling with multiple bags, you may prefer a quick taxi ride, as the path includes sandy roads without sidewalks. Once you arrive at Trellis Bay, kick off your shoes, sink your feet into the sand, and enjoy a cold drink while Arabella’s tender comes to meet you. Our crew will motor you comfortably out to Arabella, where your Caribbean adventure truly begins.
Getting to Beef Island Airport (EIS)
The simplest way to arrive is by flying into Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS) on Beef Island (connected to Tortola by the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge). For U.S. travelers, the most convenient direct option is with American Airlines from Miami (MIA) to EIS. If you can’t get a direct flight, common connecting routes include flying to San Juan (SJU) or St. Thomas (STT) and then connecting via a regional carrier to EIS. Once you arrive at EIS, you’re already in the right part of the BVI; from there you can walk or take a taxi across to Trellis Bay to meet Arabella’s tender.
Do I need to have sailing experience to join this adventure?
No prior sailing experience is needed to enjoy an unforgettable week aboard Arabella, our luxurious 157-foot mega yacht. Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or have never stepped on a boat before, this journey is designed for everyone. You can get as involved in the sailing as you like—learn the ropes, experience steering the yacht if offered by the captain, or simply watch the crew in action. Or, if relaxation is your goal, sink into one of Arabella’s plush cushions with a good book and let the sea breeze rejuvenate your soul. With spacious decks, gourmet meals, and stops at some of the BVIs best destinations, your experience aboard Arabella will be equal parts adventure and indulgence. This is more than a sailing trip—it’s your gateway to luxurious exploration and timeless memories.
How should I pack?
Packing light is key for your week aboard Arabella! While she is a luxurious 157-ft mega yacht, space onboard is thoughtfully designed but limited. We highly recommend bringing your essentials in a soft duffle bag, which can be folded and stored in your cabin. Hard suitcases are discouraged, as there won’t be room to store them. For clothing, plan for a week’s worth of versatile attire, keeping in mind that there are no laundry facilities onboard. Packing smart and light ensures a stress-free and comfortable experience, so you can fully enjoy every moment of your photography adventure!
Are there electrical outlets in the cabins?
Yes, every cabin aboard Arabella is equipped with 110-volt electrical outlets, ensuring you can stay connected and comfortable throughout your journey. You’ll have the ability to charge your phone, laptop, or other electronic devices each night. The outlets can also accommodate small personal appliances, like a hair dryer or electric razor, so you can feel fresh and ready for both adventure-filled days and elegant evening events. To make the most of the shared onboard power, we recommend bringing only essential devices and unplugging them once charged. With the convenience of these outlets, you’ll have everything you need to stay powered up and focused on enjoying your luxurious week at sea!
Are linens included?
Yes, all linens are provided to ensure your stay aboard Arabella is as comfortable as it is luxurious. Each stateroom is fully stocked with high-quality sheets, four plush pillows, a cozy fleece blanket, and a stylish bed cover. Towels for onboard use are also included. Midway through the cruise, our stewardesses perform a “turnover,” refreshing your cabin with clean sheets and linens. Please note that with up to 18 guest cabins onboard, the turnover process may be staggered over two days to ensure each guest receives attentive service. For your onshore excursions or beach outings, we recommend bringing a lightweight beach towel, as these are not included. With thoughtfully prepared staterooms and attentive service, Arabella ensures that you’ll feel right at home while enjoying your adventure on the water.
What is the situation with bathrooms and showers?
Each cabin aboard Arabella is outfitted with its own private head (the nautical term for bathroom), complete with a shower, toilet, and sink, offering you the privacy and comfort of your own space. Additionally, every cabin is equipped with air conditioning, so you can relax and sleep at your preferred temperature, ensuring a restful and enjoyable experience after a day of adventure. However, as with any yacht, water conservation is crucial. All freshwater onboard is produced using our state-of-the-art Parker Aquamatic watermaker, which transforms seawater into freshwater. While this system ensures a steady supply, the capacity is limited, especially with a full complement of guests and crew. To help us preserve this precious resource, we kindly ask all guests to take “navy showers” (briefly rinsing, turning off the water to soap up, and then rinsing again) and to use water thoughtfully. If you’re traveling with a partner or friend, sharing a shower can also help conserve water. Your cooperation ensures that everyone onboard has access to sufficient water while also supporting sustainable yachting practices. Together, we can enjoy the comforts of Arabella while being mindful of our shared resources!
How is food and drink handled during the cruise?
Dining aboard Arabella is an experience in itself, with all meals freshly prepared by our talented gourmet chef. We focus on healthy, flavorful dishes that showcase the best ingredients, and whenever possible, we source farm-to-table provisions to ensure exceptional quality and freshness. Your cruise fare includes hearty breakfasts and delicious lunches each day, as well as 3 thoughtfully curated dinners onboard, giving you a chance to savor meals crafted with care while enjoying the stunning views and relaxed atmosphere of the yacht. In addition to meals, your cabin fare includes a selection of non-alcoholic beverages to keep you refreshed throughout the day. Arabella also features a well-stocked cash bar offering beer, wine, and expertly mixed cocktails, so you can sip and savor your favorite drinks while lounging on deck or watching the sunset. From gourmet meals to refreshing beverages, Arabella ensures a culinary journey that complements your sailing adventure perfectly!
Cancellation Policy
Because only a limited number of cabins are available for each vacation, we request that guests pay the full cabin fare when they register. If this is an issue for you, please call us to discuss (201-753-1207). In order to protect your investment, guests are required to purchase trip insurance through a third party. If a guest cancels a trip 60 or more days in advance and we can fill the cabin with another guests, they will receive a 75% refund of all monies paid. If a guest cancels a trip between 30 and 60 days and we can fill the cabin with another guest, they will receive a 50% refund. No cancellations are permitted within the final 30 days before departure.
